City Announces Winners of Over $150,000 in 2024 Placemaking Grants

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 8, 2024) – The City of Charlotte has selected this year’s Placemaking Grant winners, who will be receiving a combined total of $154,310 in project funding. The city is continuing its passionate pursuit of placemaking, working with the community and local creatives to build a more vibrant Queen City.
Funding has been awarded to chosen applicants through the latest round of the city’s Placemaking Grant program. The program, which began in 2018 and is led by the City of Charlotte’s Urban Design Center (UDC), provides funding and technical support for projects that create and enhance community vibrancy, safety and identity. Project types include:
- Activation of leftover and/or underutilized spaces.
- Streetscape improvements.
- Art and beautification efforts.
- Creation of community gathering spaces.

- The Green at Prosperity Village Programming.
- Applicant – Shika Raynor.
- Organization – Prosperity Village Area Association.
- Budget – $15,000.
- Martin Lakes Community Reading Space.
- Applicant – Jasmine Bamlet.
- Organization – Martin Lakes Homeowners Association.
- Budget – $5,000.
- NoDa Butterfly Highways.
- Applicant – Krysten Reilly.
- Organization – NoDa Neighborhood and Business Association.
- Budget – $7,500.
- The Sun Always Raises in the East - East Charlotte A Catalyst for Change.
- Applicant – Gerald Patton.
- Organization – Four Seasons Homeowners Association.
- Budget – $12,630.
- Hoskins Beautification!
- Applicant – Shealyn Williamson.
- Organization – Historic Hoskins Community.
- Budget – $6,000.
- The Container Plaza (funded in partnership with the City of Charlotte’s Office of Sustainability and Resilience).

- Organization – South Park Community and Red Hill Ventures.
- Budget – $15,000.
This grant, now in its fifth consecutive year, builds upon the opportunities presented in the city’s Placemaking Hub, which provides toolkits to inspire and guide placemaking efforts.
As part of the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Placemaking Program, a showcase of 2023 grantees and their projects is being held on Thursday, May 23, from 7-8 p.m. RSVP today for an exciting evening to appreciate placemaking and be inspired by what the future can bring.
