Rachel’s passion for urban efficiencies and communities goes
hand in hand with her love of quiet, long hikes in the mountains. The common
denominator is protection and sharing of public land for opportunities of a high
quality of life for all. These have shaped her career and led her to an
undergraduate degree in ecological science, a master’s in landscape
architecture, and a career in urban design. She is licensed as a professional
landscape architect on two continents and loves exploring the world and
learning from other places.
Her career as a landscape architect has concentrated on:
research and proposals influencing institutional policy and regulation change;
developing grant funding and proposal evaluation criteria; creating design
implementation strategies; authoring impact reports, grant applications, and
design guidelines; facilitating community participation in design process;
designing graphic communications; and designing places that encourage community
building and supports ecological functions at its core. She has worked in both
private and public sectors helping build local urban design programs. She is
actively involved in local universities’ design programs and in her local
community association.
