What is Annexation?
Planning staff administers the City’s annexation regulatory processes and planning services that include customer service and processing of annexation petitions, coordination of municipal services for annexed areas, execution and renewal of annexation agreements with adjacent municipalities, and annexation policy development and implementation. Annexation has resulted in Charlotte's land area to more than double since 1980, reaching nearly 308 square miles as of July 1, 2017.
