• Perform professional planning duties-long range and strategic planning and development services 
• Meet and discuss planning issues and policy and options with City and County elected officials 
• Meets and discusses with City and County departments and other public agencies or private groups on wide range of planning programs

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Department, a professional staff, and Planning Commission, a planning advisory body, was formed by an Interlocal Agreement between the City and County in 1954.  Authority extends to the City of Charlotte and unincorporated portions of Mecklenburg County.
