The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Department develops plans to serve as policy guides and to address how parts of the community should be maintained and/or changed in the future. Plans make recommendations on land use, zoning, transportation and other issues to realize the vision of the area. Below are the Plans completed by the Planning Department since the early 1990s, as well as those currently underway.
Consistent with North Carolina state statutes, when the Charlotte City Council approves a rezoning that is not consistent with the adopted land use plan, that rezoning updates the adopted land use.
The official land use map cataloguing these changes is located on this website via Charlotte Explorer (https://explore.charlottenc.gov). Please refer to this official land use map for the most up to date land use, rather than the maps within the area plan documents.
