Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, July 16, 2021) – The victim in this case has been identified as Derrick Dion Barber, DOB: 05/17/1996.  His family has been notified of his death.

 

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.  As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.  Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective.  Detective E. Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, July 15, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the Steele Creek Division

 

Shortly before 2:30 p.m. on July 15, 2021, officers responded to a local hospital in Pineville in reference to staff receiving a male subject with an apparent gunshot wound. The male victim was transported from Pineville Hospital to Atrium Main by medic where he has since succumbed to his injuries. 

 

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the hospital to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. At this time, we do not have an exact location of where the incident occurred.
