Homicide Investigation in the Steele Creek Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, June 26, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged three suspects for the murder of Dean Varian, DOB: (11/22/1989), who is the victim in this case.

As a result of their investigation, Homicide Unit detectives charged three suspects for first degree murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon in connection with this case.  Alicia Thrower, DOB: 05/24/1996, and Kheelen Stockdale, DOB: 08/19/1999, have since been transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.  The third suspect, a 16-year-old juvenile, was transferred to a juvenile detention center.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, June 26, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 5800 block of Westpark Drive in the Steele Creek Division.

Shortly after 12:45 a.m. on June 26, 2021, officers were on an unrelated call for service on Westpark Drive when they heard one shot being fired in the area.  As they began to investigate the source of the fired shot, they located a male victim with a gunshot wound inside a hotel room and began to render first aid. Medic transported the victim to a local hospital, where he has since been pronounced deceased.

Homicide Detectives are speaking with all parties involved and are not looking for any additional suspects at this time.

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, CMPD's Operations Command,  Crime Stoppers, and CFD also assisted.
