***UPDATE*** Westover Division - Homicide in the 500 block of Fairwood Avenue

​Case Update:  Monday, August 27, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged a second suspect, Don'Travius Jetton Henderson, DOB: 02/11/1997, with the murder of Tayzhah Bush.

During the investigation, detectives identified Henderson as a suspect in this case and obtained warrants for his arrest.  Early this morning, members from the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested Henderson without incident and transported him to police headquarters where he was interviewed by homicide detectives.

At the conclusion of the interview, Henderson was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.   

This is an ongoing investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Case Update: Sunday, August 26, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department have charged James Jawann Ratliff, DOB: 02/11/1996, with the murder of Tayzhah Bush, DOB: 03/14/1998.  Her family has been notified of her death.   

Upon arriving at the scene, Westover Division patrol officers made contact with James Ratliff.  After being treated at the hospital, Ratliff agreed to speak with detectives voluntarily at police headquarters.  As a result of information and evidence gathered at the scene and during the interview, detectives placed Ratliff under arrest and charged him with Murder.  Ratliff was subsequently transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

Sunday, August 26, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 500 block of Fairwood Avenue in the Westover Division.  The call for service came in at 12:11 a.m. on Sunday, August 26, 2018. 

Westover Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located two females inside of an apartment with apparent gunshot wounds.  Medic transported one of the victims to the hospital and pronounced the other victim deceased on scene.  Her name will be released once her family has been notified.

At this time, a person of interest has been located and detectives are not searching for any additional suspects. 

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services and Operations Command responded to the scene.
