***UPDATE*** Westover Division - Homicide in the 4400 block of South Tryon Street

Case Update: Tuesday, November 27, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit and the Medical Examiner's office have ruled the death of Daquayaon Brown as accidental. Information gathered during the course of the investigation, and information from the Medical Examiner's office, led to the manner of death being ruled an accident. Based on this ruling, no charges will be filed.

Case Update: Wednesday, October 10, 2018,

The victim in this case has been identified as Daquayaon Lavar Brown, DOB: 08/23/2001.  His family has been notified of his death.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Wednesday, October 10, 2018,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at 4416 S. Tryon Street in the Westover Division.  The call for service came in at 12:06 a.m. on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. 

Providence Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service at Presbyterian Hospital. Hospital staff advised that a male victim arrived at their location with a gunshot wound.  He was pronounced deceased at the hospital.   His name will be released once his family has been notified.

Witnesses who arrived at the hospital with the victim advised that the incident occurred at a hotel located on S. Tryon Street near Woodlawn Road.  CMPD officers circulated the area and located the crime scene in the parking lot at the Motel 6 located at 4416 S. Tryon Street.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, and Operations Command responded to the scene.
