Charlotte, N.C. - (Wednesday, March 18, 2020) - Detectives with the Chalotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Prentice Bess, DOB: 01/31/1988, for the murder of Jeremy Whitted, DOB: 11/29/1985, who is the victim in this case. The victim's family has been notified of the victim's death and the suspect's arrest.
Bess was the suspect who was immediately taken into custody on the scene. Bess was interviewed by Homicide Unit detectives and has since been transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with murder.
The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office. Charlotte, N.C. - (Wednesday, March 18, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation at the Day's Inn located at 118 E. Woodlawn Road in the Westover Division. The call for service came in at 3:46 a.m. on Wednesday, March 18, 2020.
Westover Division patrol officers responded to disturbance call for service at the hotel called in by the on-site security guard. MEDIC was also dispatched to the scene to treat one of the individuals involved in the disturbance. While MEDIC personnel were treating the victim in their ambulance, the suspect shot the victim. Officers were able to immediately take the suspect into custody. The paramedics on scene were not injured. The victim's identity will be released pending family notification.
Homicide Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses and canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident.
Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence. Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, CFD, MEDIC and Operations Command responded to the scene.
