Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Vice and Narcotics Unit have charged Refugio Najir Gutierrez Espinoza (DOB: 12/20/1980) with several charges related to the trafficking of illicit drugs.
On April 12, 2018 the Vice and Narcotics Unit of the Special Investigations Bureau received an anonymous tip of suspected narcotic sales for the 9400 block of South Tryon Street. As a result of this tip, surveillance was conducted which led to a traffic stop on a vehicle operated by Refugio Najir Gutierrez Espinoza. The driver was arrested on traffic-related charges and transported to the Steele Creek team office to be interviewed.
Further investigation into the aforementioned location by Vice and Narcotics detectives and a K9 Unit led to search warrants being issued for the premises. As a result of the search, body armor, night vision goggles, firearms, and a variety of narcotics and drug paraphernalia were seized. Specifically concerning the drugs, approximately 1580 grams of marijuana, 370 grams of THC oil, 2515 grams of synthetic marijuana, 2950 grams of methamphetamine, 7 grams of crystal methamphetamine, and 25 units of prescription medication were seized.
As a result of the interview and search warrant, Refugio Najir Gutierrez Espinoza was charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Felony Possession of Marijuana, Trafficking Synthetic Marijuana, Trafficking Methamphetamine, and Trafficking Heroin.
