***UPDATE*** University City Division - Major Crash Detectives investigating a fatality in the 9700 block of Old Concord Road


Case Update: Wednesday, August 22, 2018,

On Monday, August 20, 2018, detectives with the Major Crash Investigations Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Dylan Leviner for Involuntary Manslaughter.  During the investigation it was determined that Dylan Leviner was operating his 2003 Infiniti G35 at a high rate of speed on Old Concord Road at the time of the crash and that speed is a factor in this crash.

On Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at approximately 6:00 p.m., Dylan Leviner turned himself in to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officers and was transported to the Mecklenburg county jail for arrest processing.

Saturday, August 11, 2018,  

On Saturday, August 11, 2018 at approximately 1:09 a.m., University Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash with injuries in the 9700 block of Old Concord Road in the University Division.  Upon officers' arrival they located a bicyclist on the side of Old Concord Road and a damaged 2003 Infiniti G35.  The bicyclist, Miquase Corey Maddox, was lying in the right-of-way unresponsive.

The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC responded to the scene.  Mr. Maddox was pronounced deceased on the scene by MEDIC personnel. The driver, Dylan Leviner, and his passenger in the Infiniti remained on scene.  A witness traveling behind the Infiniti also remained on scene.

Detectives with the Major Crash Investigation Unit, Officers with the DWI Task Force, Motor Unit and Crime Scene Search were called to the scene to conduct the investigation. The investigation revealed that Mr. Maddox was operating a bicycle traveling South West in the roadway against traffic. Mr. Leviner was operating an Infiniti traveling North East when he struck Mr. Maddox causing Mr. Maddox to be thrown from his bicycle and off the roadway.  Mr. Maddox was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Both the driver and the passenger of the Infiniti were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.  Impairment is not a factor in this crash for the driver of the Infiniti and it is unknown at this time if impairment is a factor for the bicyclist. Speed is an unknown factor at this time for the Infiniti as this case remains under investigation.
