Case Update: Saturday, August 18, 2018

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Kavona Alexus McLean, DOB 8/17/1992 with the victim's murder.  Earlier today, VCAT coordinated the arrest of Ms. McLean by University City Division Officers.  She was interviewed by detectives and at the conclusion of the interview, she was transported to the Mecklenburg County Intake Center.

Case Update: Sunday, August 12, 2018

The victim has been identified as Justin William Miller, DOB 12/1/1994.  His family has been notified of his death.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.  As additional information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Sunday August 12, 2018

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 3900 block of Farlow Rd. in the University City Division.  The call for service came in at 9:37 a.m. on Sunday, August 12, 2018. 

University City Division officers responded to an Assist Medic call for service in the 3900 block of Farlow Rd which was called in by the grandmother of the victim who found the victim unresponsive inside the residence. Upon their arrival, officers located the male victim.  This individual was pronounced deceased at the scene by MEDIC.   The victim's identity will be released pending family notification. 

Detectives with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene.  Crime Scene Search, Victim's Assistance and the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's office responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.
