***UPDATE*** University City Division - Homicide in the 9200 block of South Library Lane

Case Update:  Friday, May 3, 2019,

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department is releasing audio recordings of 48 calls made to 911 in the wake of the UNC Charlotte shooting incident. The calls are public record and because they’ve been requested by media must be released, according to NC Law. 


The calls have been edited to protect the identity of the caller, which is also a requirement under the law. Identifying information, such as names, addresses and phone numbers, have been removed. Also, the voice of the caller has been altered.

Thirty-two of the 48 calls were received within 16 minutes. A link to the audio of each call can be found below.

The deceased victims have been identified as:

Ellis Parlier, 19, of Midland, NC
Riley Howell, 21, of Waynesville, NC

Those treated in local hospitals are:

Drew Pescaro, 19, of Charlotte

Rami Alramadhan, 20, of Charlotte

Emily Houpt, 23, of Charlotte

Sean DeHart, 20, of Charlotte

Case Update:  Tuesday, April 30, 2019,

The suspect has been identified as Trystan Andrew Terrell, DOB: 06/06/1996. He is in custody at this time with charges pending against him.

Tuesday, April 30, 2019,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 9200 block of South Library Lane on the campus of The University of North Carolina at Charlotte in the University City Division.  The call for service came in at 5:42 p.m. on Tuesday, April 30, 2019.  

UNCC Police responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service involving an active shooter on South Library Lane in the Kennedy Building.  Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department Officers responded to assist with tactical and investigative resources.  Officers located multiple victims with gunshot wounds.  Medic responded and transported three victims to Atrium Health Carolina's Medical Center.  One victim was transported by a UNCC Police Sergeant to Atrium Health University City.  That victim was later transported by Medic to Atrium Health Carolina's Medical Center.  Two additional victims were pronounced deceased on scene by Medic. Their names will be released once family notifications are made.

A male subject of interest was located by UNCC Police on scene and has been transported to police headquarters to be interviewed by Homicide Detectives.   Homicide detectives are currently speaking with witnesses and are not searching for any additional suspects.  

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, K-9, Aviation Unit, Real Time Crime Center, SWAT, Charlotte Fire Department, Medic, Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Department, UNCC Police, Cabarrus County Sheriff's Department, Federal Bureau of Investigations, State Bureau of Investigations, Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Alcohol Beverage Control Officers, and Operations Command responded to the scene.
