University City Division - Homicide in the 9000 block of Faires Road

Case Update: Monday, March 25, 2019

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit has charged Shakeli Laquell Lewis, DOB: 01/03/1989, for the murder of Deonte Cortez Thompson, DOB: 01/12/1992.

As a result of continued investigation into this case, Homicide Unit detectives identified Lewis as a suspect.  Lewis was transported to the Hickory Grove Division office where she was interviewed by detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Lewis was transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with first degree murder.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.  As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD Public Affairs Office.

Monday, March 25, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation located in the 9000 block of Faires Road in the University City Division.  The call for service came in at 8:29 a.m. on Monday, March 25, 2019.

University City Division Officers responded to an assist medic.  Upon their arrival, officers located a male outside of the residence with apparent trauma.  The male was pronounced deceased on scene by Medic.  His identity will be released pending family notification.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident.  At this time, detectives are not looking for any additional suspects.

Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Homicide Unit, Missing Persons Unit, Sexual Assault Unit, Robbery Unit, Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team and Victim Services also responded to the scene.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.
