***UPDATE*** University City Division - Homicide in the 8600 block of Old Concord Road

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, February 5, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Trevor Lloyd Powell, DOB: 02/27/1991, for his involvement in this homicide.

As a result of continued investigation, detectives identified Powell as a suspect in this case.  On February 5, 2020, detectives with the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Powell without incident.  After being interviewed by Homicide Unit detectives, Powell was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, two counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, three counts of Discharging a Firearm into a Occupied Moving Vehicle, and Possession of Marijuana.

Charlotte, N.C. - (Sunday, February 2, 2020) – The victim in this case has been identified as Jacquez Keyshawn Moore, DOB: 01/22/2001.  His family has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. - (Sunday, February 2, 2020) –  Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 8600 block of Old Concord Road in the University City Division.  The call for service came in at 4:55 p.m. on Sunday, February 2, 2020.   

University City Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located two individuals, one male and one female, inside of a vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds.  The caller, a rideshare driver, advised that he had picked up the two individuals a short time prior to the shooting and were en route to a location when a vehicle pulled up to next to his vehicle near East W.T. Harris Boulevard and Old Concord Road.  The caller said that while stopped, an individual(s) in the other vehicle fired multiple times at the rear of his vehicle, striking both of the individuals who were in the back of his vehicle.  The caller drove a short distance away until he pulled over and called 911.  The male was pronounced deceased on scene by medic.  The female was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  The deceased victim's identity will be released pending family notification. 

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, K-9, CFD, Medic, SIB and Operations Command responded to the scene.
