***UPDATE*** University City Division - Homicide in the 2100 block of Wit Way

Charlotte, N.C. - (Friday, March 13, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Darian Huffman, DOB: 12/29/1992, as a second suspect in the murder of Lamar McNeil.

As a result of continued investigation, detectives identified Huffman as a suspect, and warrants were issued for his arrest.  On March 13, 2020, members of the CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested Huffman without incident.  Huffman was interviewed by detectives and subsequently transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Charlotte, N.C. - (Thursday, March 12, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Joshua McClain, DOB: 06/30/1993, for the murder of Lamar McNeil.

As a result of continued investigation, detectives identified McClain as a suspect, and warrants were issued for his arrest.  On March 12, 2020, members of the CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) located and arrested McClain without incident.  McClain was interviewed by detectives and was subsequently transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Charlotte, N.C. - (Wednesday, March 11, 2020) – The victim in this case has been identified as Lamar McNeil, DOB: 09/08/1976.  His family has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. - (Tuesday, March 10, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 2100 block of Wit Way in the University City Division.  The call for service came in at 8:51 p.m. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. 

University City Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a male with a gunshot wound in an apartment.  He was transported to the hospital by medic and later pronounced deceased by hospital staff.  The victim's identity will be released pending family notification. 

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, CFD, Medic, RTCC, K-9, Aviation and Operations Command responded to the scene.
