Case Update: Saturday, August 31, 2019

The deceased victim in this case has been identified as Christian Malik Estes, DOB: 12/23/1999.  His family has been notified of his death.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.  As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1400 block of Rebecca Bailey Drive in the University City Division.  The call for service came in at 12:52 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019.  

University City Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service at a residence located in the 1400 block of Rebecca Bailey Drive. Upon their arrival officers located one adult male victim in front of the apartment and two additional female victims located behind the apartment, all with an apparent gunshot wounds.  All three of these victims were transported by MEDIC to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center, where one victim (male) was later pronounced deceased.  A fourth victim (male) was transported by unknown individuals to Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center -University.   This victim is being treated for a life threatening gunshot wound to his chest.  The victims' names will not be released until their families have been notified.

The initial investigation has revealed that a party was taking place at an apartment located on Rebecca Bailey Drive.  Multiple people were standing in front of the apartment when an argument took place.  Shortly afterwards, the shooting occurred and four individuals were struck. 

The investigation has also revealed that the two female victims, both of which have non-life threatening injuries, are enrolled at UNCC. 

Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services and Operations Command responded to the scene.
