Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Armed Robbery Unit have charged Eric Christopher Orr, DOB: 09/13/1984, for his involvement in multiple armed robberies in the Hickory Grove Division.
On Saturday, February 6, 2016, a victim reported that a known suspect, identified as Orr, had held her against her will at a residence in the 5400 block of Equipment Drive. Orr then took her gold Ford Taurus without her permission. North Tryon Division patrol officers were able to sign warrants on Orr for Common Law Robbery, Larceny of Motor Vehicle and False Imprisonment. An alert for the stolen vehicle was also broadcast to officers (see CMPD report number 20160206-0216-01).
On Sunday, February 7, 2016, at approximately 4:39 a.m., a black male suspect entered the Quick Trip, located at 6721 Albemarle Road. The suspect approached the clerk and demanded money at gunpoint. The suspect then fled the scene on foot (see report number 20160207-0442-01).
A couple of hours later, at approximately 6:33 a.m., the same suspect approached the Circle K, located at 7225 Albemarle Road. The suspect forced the clerk, who was outside of the business, back into the business at gunpoint. The suspect the proceeded to rob the business of money and fled the scene on foot. Hickory Grove Division patrol officers, along with the K-9 Unit, responded to the scene and the K-9 began to track the suspect. The track led to an apartment complex where information was gathered that the suspect had fled in a 4-door sedan (see report number 20160207-0633-00).
Additional information and evidence gathered by Real Time Crime Center Detectives led them in identifying the robbery vehicle as the same vehicle stolen from Equipment Drive.
On Sunday, February 7, 2016, Eastway Division patrol offices located the stolen Taurus being driven by Orr. Officers initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle but Orr refused to comply with officers. A vehicle pursuit then ensued. A short time later officers were able to take Orr into custody without further incident. Evidence linking Orr to the business robberies was located inside of the vehicle. Orr was transported to police headquarters for interview and then transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
Orr has been charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Felony Flee and Elude, Reckless Driving, Assault on an Officer, two counts of Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon, three counts of 2nd Degree Kidnapping, Common Law Robbery and False Imprisonment.
Thanks to the excellent communication between divisional officers, K-9, Armed Robbery Detectives and Real Time Crime Center Detectives, this armed and dangerous suspect was arrested before he could cause further harm to the community.
