Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Central Division have charged Ron Gant, DOB: 05/03/1999, for his involvement in the assault and robbery of a victim.

On February 29, 2016, at approximately 1:20 p.m., Central Division patrol officers responded to N. Church Street and W. 7th Street in reference to a strong armed robbery.  Upon arrival the victim advised that he was walking in the vicinity and talking on his cell phone when he was approached by a suspect from behind.  The suspect punched the victim, took his cell phone and fled on foot.  Additional information given to officers indicated that there were two additional subjects with the suspect.  Central Division Officers and the Aviation Unit began circulating the area and quickly located and detained three individuals in the 200 block of N. Cedar Street.   Additional information and evidence gathered led officers in charging Gant.  The victim's cell phone was located in the possession of Gant and returned to the victim. Officers were able to determine that the two additional subjects were not involved in the crime.

Gant was transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed by detectives and admitted to assaulting the victim and taking his property.  He was then transported to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and has been charged with Common Law Robbery and Possession of Stolen Property.
