Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, June 12, 2021) – Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team worked alongside negotiators to successfully de-escalate and apprehend a barricaded suspect in the Independence Division.
Around 4 a.m., Independence Division officers responded to the 2700 block of Mill Valley Court regarding multiple calls for a disturbance with shots fired.
As officers arrived, the front door was open. They knocked on the door and announced themselves. The suspect came down the stairs. Officers asked the suspect to see his hands; the suspect showed them a firearm. The suspect discharged multiple rounds in the house. Officers immediately moved to positions of cover, established a perimeter and SWAT officers, as well as negotiators, responded and made multiple attempts to make contact.
After several hours of attempted negotiations, SWAT deployed less than lethal irritants into the house to disorient the individual, and the suspect was safely apprehended and taken into custody shortly before 11 a.m.
The name of the suspect will be released after he has been formally charged. Officers have spoken with all parties involved and are not looking for any additional victims or suspects.
No CMPD officers were injured or discharged their service weapons during this incident.
