Case Update: Suspect Apprehended Following SWAT Activation

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, June 3, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Antoine Debold, DOB: 05/26/1987, for his involvement in a series of crimes.

Shortly after 4:00 p.m. on June 2, 2021, after speaking with negotiators, the suspect peacefully surrendered to SWAT officers. Debold was transported to Atrium Main to be evaluated prior to the Law Enforcement Center for an interview.

During the course of the investigation, information gathered that Debold was out on Parole for Criminal Possession of a Firearm in New York at the time of this incident.  

Following the interview with detectives, Debold was transported to the custody of the Mecklenburg County's Sheriff's Office and charged with three counts of Attempted Murder, three counts of Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer with a Firearm, Assault on a Female and Possession of Firearm by Felon.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, June 2, 2021) – Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team worked alongside negotiators to successfully de-escalate and apprehend a barricaded suspect in the Steele Creek Division.

Shortly before 1:45 p.m., officers in the Steele Creek Division responded to the 13500 block of Little Abbey Lane in reference to a domestic disturbance call for service.  As officers knocked on the door and announced themselves, a suspect inside the residence discharged several rounds from a weapon at them.  Officers immediately retreated to safety and began to evacuate surrounding apartments.  As officers worked to ensure the safety of those in the immediate area, the suspect continued to discharge additional rounds. When the suspect refused to exit the residence, the SWAT Team was requested to assist with the apprehension.  After speaking with negotiators, the suspect peacefully surrendered to SWAT officers shortly after 4:00 p.m.

The name of the suspect will be released after he has been formally charged.  Officers have spoken with all parties involved and are not looking for any additional victims or suspects. 

No CMPD officers were injured or discharged their service weapons during this incident.
