Steele Creek Division - Suspects charged in multiple felonies

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Steele Creek Division have charged Charles Demond Douglass, DOB: 08/26/1999, Kailah Renee Jones, DOB: 11/18/2000, and Cordell Robert Peters, DOB:  06/14/1999, for their involvement in a series of crimes.

On Tuesday, May 15, 2018, Steele Creek Division officers were investigating an incident when they encountered Douglass and Jones. During this investigation, it was determined that the Honda CR-V Douglass and Jones had been occupying was reported stolen on April 30, 2018. Douglass admitted to being the driver of the stolen vehicle and was placed under arrest and transported to the Steele Creek Division office. 

During the course of the interview, Douglass confessed to his involvement in several car break-ins in the Steele Creek area. At the conclusion of his interview, Douglass was charged with Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, 18 counts of Breaking/Entering into a Motor Vehicle, 13 counts of Misdemeanor Larceny, three counts of Financial Credit Card Theft, two counts of Felony Larceny, and Attempted Breaking/Entering into a Motor Vehicle.

At the conclusion of Jones' interview, she was charged with Felony Fraud, Felony Conspiracy, and Possession of Stolen Property.

At the conclusion of the investigation, it was determined that Peters was also a suspect. He was sub-sequentially charged with two counts of Breaking/Entering into a Motor Vehicle, Felony Conspiracy, two counts of Financial Credit Card Theft, Signing a Card Fraudulently, Felony Fraud, and two counts of Misdemeanor Larceny.

Detectives are reviewing similar cases and additional charges may be filed. As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs. This investigation was a collective effort between Steele Creek Division officers, detectives, and the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department's Crime Laboratory.
