***UPDATE*** Steele Creek Division - Homicide in the 500 block of Deanna Lane

Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, February 17, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Rafael Molina Pena, DOB: 05/04/1980, for the murder of Ramon Antonio Alvarado-Cubas.

During the course of the investigation, detectives identified Pena as a suspect in this case.  As a result of a collective effort from the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), Homicide Unit, K-9 Unit, and Steele Creek Division, Pena was located on February 17, 2020, and arrested without incident.  Pena was interviewed by detectives and subsequently transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office where he was charged with Murder.

Charlotte, N.C. - (Sunday, February 16, 2020) – The victim in this case has been identified as Ramon Antonio Alvarado-Cubas, DOB: 3/10/1987.  His family has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. - (Sunday, February 16, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 500 block of Deanna Lane in the Steele Creek Division.  The call for service came in at 2:01 a.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2020. 

Steele Creek Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a male outside of an apartment building with a gunshot wound.  He was pronounced deceased on scene.  The victim's identity will be released pending family notification. 

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, CFD, Medic, RTCC, K-9 and Operations Command responded to the scene.
