Charlotte, N.C. - (Friday, April 10, 2020) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have classified this case as a justified homicide.  The Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office has reviewed the case and concurs with the detectives' decision to not charge anyone in this case.

Charlotte, N.C. - (Sunday, February 16, 2020) – The victim in this case has been identified as James John Basil McKnight, DOB: 1/29/1986. His family has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. - (Sunday, February 16, 2020) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1900 block of Westinghouse Boulevard in the Steele Creek Division.  The call for service came in at 2:17 a.m. on Sunday, February 16, 2020. 

Steele Creek Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a male with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of The Trap.  He was transported to the hospital by medic and pronounced deceased by hospital staff.  The victim's identity will be released pending family notification. 

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, CFD, Medic, RTCC, K-9, ABC and Operations Command responded to the scene.
