***UPDATE*** South Division - Homicide in the 2700 block of Lytham Drive

Case Update: Sunday, November 10, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Caldwell Cole, Jr, DOB: 03/10/1944, for the murders of Janet Scronce and Furahn Morrow.

Through continued investigation, homicide detectives identified Cole as the suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. On November 10, 2019, Cole was released from a nearby hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries sustained from the incident. Cole was transported to Police Headquarters where he was interviewed by detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, he was transferred to the Mecklenburg County Jail.  Cole has been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury with intent to kill.

Case Update: Saturday, November 9, 2019

The victims in this case have been identified as Janet Elizabeth Scronce, DOB: 01/01/1979 and Furahn Karren Woods Morrow, DOB: 08/10/1980.  Their families have been notified of their deaths.

Saturday, November 9, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 2700 block of Lytham Drive.  The call for service came in at 5:16 a.m. on Saturday, November 9, 2019. 

South Division officers responded to an ADW with injury call for service.  Officers located three individuals with apparent gunshot wounds. One was pronounced at the scene. Another one was pronounced by medical staff at Atrium Health's Carolinas Medical Center. Their names will be released once family notification has been made.

Homicide Detectives responded to the scene and are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. We are not actively looking for any additional suspects.  

Crime Scene Search has responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, Medic, CFD, and Operations Command responded to the scene.
