Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, September 29, 2021) – Detectives with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Westover Division are conducting an investigation into a shooting that occurred on a Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) light rail, leaving one person injured.
Around 5:30 a.m. this morning, officers responded to reports of a shooting near the 3700 block of South Boulevard. When they arrived, officers located an adult male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. MEDIC transported the injured subject to the hospital, where he is currently being treated.
Detectives responded to the scene to conduct the investigation, and Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence. The preliminary investigation indicates the injured subject began to physically attack an adult male passenger on the light rail. During this attack, the passenger discharged his firearm, striking the subject.
Detectives are speaking to all parties involved and are not looking for anyone else. The passenger who fired his weapon is being cooperative and currently speaking with detectives. Detectives are still working to determine if charges are appropriate.
