Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, October 5, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Eastway Division have charged a juvenile male for his involvement in a recent shooting.
On October 5, 2021, at approximately 6:57 a.m., a CMPD School Resource Officer heard several gunshots in the 1100 block of the Eastway Division. A witness also reported a shooting near this location and stated that several subjects were seen running onto the campus of Garinger High School. Officers were unable to locate any victims, but out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockdown while an investigation was conducted.
From information and evidence obtained, officers determined that the shooting did not occur on school property and also identified a juvenile suspect in this case. The suspect was located on the school campus and placed under arrest. Additionally, a firearm and two magazines were confiscated on school property. The juvenile has been charged with Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of Firearm by a Minor, and Possession of a Firearm on School Grounds.
