Case Update: Shooting Investigation in the Westover Division

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, November 16, 2021) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged a second suspect, Taizojh Deaveon Smith, DOB: 03/04/2002, for the murder of Daliamontray Decarlo Strothers Jr.

As a result of continued investigation, Homicide Unit detectives identified Smith as the suspect in this case, and warrants were issued for his arrest.  On November 16, 2021, Smith was located and arrested in Statesville, NC, by members of CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) with assistance from the U.S. Secret Service, Statesville Police Department, and N.C. Highway Patrol.  After an interview with detectives, Smith was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, and three counts of Shooting into Occupied Dwelling.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, November 2, 2021) - Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Dametrius Hilliard, DOB: 04/26/2003, for the murder of Daliamontray Decarlo Strothers Jr.

As a result of continued investigation, Homicide Unit detectives identified Hilliard as the suspect in this case, and warrants were issued for his arrest.  On November 2, 2021, Hilliard was located and arrested following a collaborative effort by members of CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), Canine Unit, Aviation Unit, and officers from Freedom, North and Metro Divisions.  After an interview with detectives, Hilliard was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, and three counts of Shooting into Occupied Dwelling.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, October 15, 2021) –  The victim in this case has been identified as Daliamontray Decarlo Strothers Jr., DOB: 02/17/2006. On October 14, 2021, Strothers Jr. was pronounced deceased at Atrium Health Main due to injuries sustained in this incident.  His family has been notified of his death.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Wednesday, October 13, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a shooting investigation near the 600 block of Fairwood Avenue.

On October 12, 2021, at approximately 11:58 p.m., officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service in the 600 block of Fairwood Avenue. When they arrived, officers located a juvenile male victim with an apparent gunshot wound.  Medic transported the victim to Atrium Main with life-threatening injuries.  

Homicide Unit detectives responded to the scene to conduct an investigation, while Crime Scene Search responded to process the scene and collect physical evidence.   Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command and CFD also responded to the scene.
