Charlotte, N.C. (Aug. 15, 2017) - Heavy rain and storms from last night caused two large oak trees to fall near the intersection of Selwyn Avenue and Croydon Road this morning. The southbound lane of Selwyn Avenue will remain closed while crews clear the trees and remove two additional trees that pose a hazard to pedestrians and motorists. Both lanes of Selwyn Avenue will close periodically to accommodate equipment.
"Contractor crews are working as quickly as possible to get both lanes of Selwyn Avenue opened to traffic," said City Arborist Tim Porter. "Our goal is to have the trees removed and the entire road open in time for the afternoon commute."
Call 911 to report trees that threaten safety or property or that block major roadways and access for emergency services.
