Search Warrants Served in Illegal Gambling Investigation

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s ABC Unit are conducting an illegal gambling investigation.

On Friday, February 10, 2023, detectives executed search warrants at two fish table arcades located at 6233 Old Sugar Creek Road and 5744 North Tryon Street. Each location was open and patrons were actively gambling inside. Armed security guards who were not licensed to perform armed security were present at each location.  Approximately $95,000 was seized between the two locations and more than 170 gambling machines were disabled. Two misdemeanor warrants were served for individuals unrelated to illegal gambling. Both security guards were charged with providing armed security without a license.


Officers with the University City, North Tryon, Westover, and South Division Crime Reduction Units assisted along with agents with the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement (ALE), and Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).


The investigation into this case is active and ongoing and more charges are pending.
