Join CATS in the Clean Commute Challenge!
Charlotte Area Transit System, Charlotte Air Awareness and Sustain Charlotte are teaming up again to host a month-long Clean Commute Challenge. The challenge encourages the community to use alternative methods to get to work rather than driving alone, and is designed to reduce the number of miles being driven by commuters through clean commuting options such as taking public transit, carpooling, vanpooling, walking, biking and telecommuting.
This free regional sustainable transportation challenge aims to reduce air emissions from commuter traffic during the height of ozone season, which takes place throughout the summer. According to Air Awareness officials, local air quality has improved dramatically over the last decade, but the Charlotte region only narrowly meets the health-based standard for ground-level ozone.
Residents can participate in the challenge August 1 – 31, 2018 by logging their clean commutes using Way2GoCLT.com or the Commute Tracker App found at the Apple App or Google Play Store. Participants will be eligible to win weekly prizes, such as passes to an escape room, a kayak tour or a FitBit. A Carolina Panthers prize pack will be awarded at the end of the challenge to a randomly select participant who clean commutes five times during August. Anyone who works or lives within the Charlotte ozone maintenance area – Cabarrus, Gaston, Iredell, Lincoln, Mecklenburg, Rowan, Union and York (SC) counties – is eligible for prizes.
