Repairs to LYNX to Continue Through
Afternoon Rush Hour
Charlotte Area Transit System
continues to repair the overhead catenary system (OCS) on the LYNX Blue Line.
The OCS is the system that powers the light rail trains. Repairs are expected
to be ongoing through afternoon rush hour and into late-night service.
At the beginning of service this morning, an insulator on
the OCS broke, which caused the overhead wire to sag and be damaged. In
order to repair the OCS, light rail service was suspended from I-485 to New
Bern stations. A bus bridge remains in place between I-485 and New Bern. Buses
performing the bridge will have “LYNX Connector” on the headway sign. Trains
are operating between New Bern and 7th Street stations. The riding
public should allow for extra travel time and be patient as the system is
repaired and safely returned to normal service.
