Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, June 29, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are no longer requesting the public's assistance in locating the suspect vehicle or driver that was involved in a fatal motor vehicle collision near the 4000 block of East W T Harris Boulevard. Detectives have charged Tamika Powell, 06/09/1986, for her involvement in the fatal collision.
On June 28, 2021, at approximately 7:50 a.m., officers with the N. Tryon Division located a black Chevrolet Equinox parked in a gravel driveway at the 6000 block of The Plaza. Officers observed damages to the vehicle that matched the profile released by detectives. As a result of continued investigation, warrants were obtained for Powell, where she was then arrested and transferred to the Law Enforcement Center for interview. Following the interview with detectives, Powell was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Felony Hit and Run, and Involuntary Manslaughter.

Charlotte, N.C. – (Sunday, June 27, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are conducting an investigation into a fatal, hit-and-run motor vehicle collision which occurred near the 4000 block of East W T Harris Boulevard in the North Tryon Division.
Shortly after 2:10 a.m. this morning, officers responded to reports of a motor vehicle collision just north of The Plaza on East W T Harris Boulevard. When they arrived, they located an injured pedestrian and learned the vehicle involved in the collision had fled the scene. The pedestrian, Kevin Gaviel Osorto, DOB: 08/07/2007, was pronounced deceased on scene. His family has been notified of his death.
The CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit, DWI Task Force, Motor Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. Their preliminary investigation indicates the pedestrian was walking along the right shoulder of the southbound side of East W T Harris Boulevard when he was struck by the suspect vehicle. Debris from the collision aided detectives in identifying the suspect vehicle as a 2016 or 2017 Chevrolet Equinox.
