Charlotte, N.C. – (Tuesday, May 18, 2021) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are requesting the public's assistance in locating Aaron Hall Duncan, DOB: 01/11/1992, who is wanted for his involvement in this incident.
Shortly before 2:15 a.m., on May 16, 2021, North Tryon Division Officers responded to the 6800 block of North Tryon Street in reference to a call for service regarding a single vehicle accident. Upon arrival, officers located a 2009 Dodge Challenger in the roadway with substantial damage. The driver of the Dodge Challenger, Maurice Xavier Kelly, DOB: 03/16/1997, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries in another vehicle.
The CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit and Crime Scene Search responded to conduct the investigation and collect physical evidence. The initial investigation revealed that the Dodge Challenger was traveling northbound on N. Tryon street at a high rate of speed when Kelly lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle went off the road before striking a construction fence, three trees, and two metal light poles. As the vehicle struck those items, it rolled over and came to a rest back in the roadway.
As a part of the continued investigation, detectives obtained evidence that led them to believe that Kelly and two other vehicles were racing directly before this crash. Duncan was determined to be the driver of one of the other vehicles and warrants were issued for his arrest. Detectives are still working to determine the identity of the third driver and vehicle involved.
Prior to this incident, Duncan had an unserved warrant for Pre-arranged Street Racing stemming from CMPD's recent street racing operation. When officers attempted to arrest Duncan on May 6, 2021, they were unable to locate him. Since that time, Duncan has continued to drive aggressively and street race putting the public in potential danger. Additionally, Duncan was a recipient of a letter from Chief of Police Johnny Jennings detailing the charges he could face if he continues to engage in dangerous and reckless activities.
Duncan is known to operate a white Dodge Challenger with a Florida tag but has also been observed driving a silver Dodge Challenger, possibly with a paper tag. A picture of Aaron Hall Duncan and the vehicles he operates have been provided below. A photo of Maurice Kelly's vehicle following the accident has also been provided.
Detectives would ask that if anyone in the community has any information about Aaron Duncan's whereabouts to call 9-1-1 immediately. The public can also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com/.
