Charlotte, N.C. – (Friday, December 13, 2019) -- Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Providence Division have charged Timothy Lavar Williams, DOB:02/06/1980, for his involvement in this shooting.
Information and evidence gathered during the course of this investigation led detectives in identifying Williams as the suspect in this case. Warrants were obtained for his arrest. He was located and arrested on December 13, 2019 by the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT). He was transported to a nearby hospital to be evaluated by medical staff for a non-life threating gunshot wound received prior to any interaction with police and released a short time later. He was then transported to the Providence Division office where he was interviewed by detectives. At the conclusion of the interview, Williams was charged with attempted 1st degree murder. He was transferred to the custody of Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.

Charlotte, N.C. - (Wednesday, December 11, 2019) – Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Providence Division are investigating a shooting which occurred near the 500 block of Briar Creek Road, which is in the Providence Division.
On Wednesday, December 11, 2019 at around 2:00 a.m., officers responded to reports of a shooting at Smokey Joe's Cafe located at 510 Briar Creek Road. When officers arrived, they located an adult male who had been shot. The victim was transported to the hospital by Medic with life-threatening injuries. Providence Division detectives and members of the CMPD's ABC Unit, Canine Unit and Crime Scene Search were utilized during the preliminary investigation, which indicates two patrons of the establishment were in a physical altercation when the suspect escalated to the use of a firearm by shooting the victim. The suspect then fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.
