Providence Division - Major Crash Detectives investigating a fatality in the 3000 block of Dunn Avenue


Sunday, September 29, 2019,

On Sunday September 29th, 2019 at 2:30pm Providence Division officers responded to a call for service in the 3000 block of Dunn Avenue.  CSX cargo train personnel called 911 to report their train traveling northbound had struck a pedestrian/trespasser on the tracks.  Officers arrived and found CSX train 5282 stopped on the tracks just prior to the Bascom Street crossing.  After a brief search of the tracks officers located an unresponsive black female on the tracks under the train along the 3000 block of Dunn Avenue.  The Charlotte Fire Department and MEDIC also responded to the scene and the female was pronounced deceased.

The incident is under investigation by the Major Crash Investigation Unit.  Any person who witnessed the incident or has information about the case is asked to call Detective Oberer at 704- 432-2169 or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
