Charlotte, N.C. – (Thursday, August 26, 2021) – Officers in the North Division have successfully de-escalated an incident involving a suicidal subject that was armed with a firearm in the North Division.
Shortly after 2:30 p.m., on August 26, 2021, officers responded to the 9900 block of Perimeter Station Drive in reference to a subject who was armed with a firearm and threatening to commit suicide. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male that was in possession of a firearm and refusing to comply with their requests. Officers immediately evacuated the surrounding area and initiated dialogue with the subject in an attempt to peacefully de-escalate the situation. After several hours of speaking with negotiators, the male peacefully surrendered to officers.
Medic transported the subject to an area hospital to be evaluated and to determine the next steps for treatment. No one was injured during the course of this incident. No officers fired their weapons during this incident.
Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, SWAT Team, Community Policing Crisis Response Team, Medic, and CFD responded to assist.
