Charlotte, N.C- (Friday, May 14, 2021)- CMPD would like to honor one of their retired K9's who passed away this week after battling cancer. Addy served the K9 Unit for 8.5 years alongside K9 Officer Darrell Brown.
Addy has visited many schools and events over the years as Officer Brown's partner. If you went to a large sporting event or festival in the last eight years, your outing was likely made safer by Addy's work. Addy's primary job was to detect explosives; however, she did so much more than that. She is an Army Veteran; She volunteered in hospitals, schools, churches, and many other community events.
During COVID, she visited children at home to celebrate birthdays when their parties had to be canceled. She lived for work, play, her partner, and being rewarded with love and belly rubs. Sadly, she passed May 11, 2021, at the age of 9 1/2 years, succumbing to ongoing health issues to include battling breast cancer for the second time. She was the best partner Officer Brown could have had, and her work made Charlotte a safer place.
