CATS Installs Plexiglass Seat Barriers on Buses
Continues to Explore and Implement Health Safety Measures

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte Area Transit System is currently installing plexiglass seat barriers on all local fixed-route buses and paratransit vehicles. This health measure provides transit riders with an increased level of protection against transmittable illness.

"Our team has worked diligently during the pandemic to provide safe, reliable transit service to the Charlotte region. We proactively implemented stringent cleaning protocols, modified transit schedules, installed social distancing signage, removed seats on buses and capped passenger loads," said CATS CEO John Lewis. "Today, we're taking the next step by installing plexiglass seat barriers on all fixed-route buses and paratransit vehicles."

Installation is complete on all 83 paratransit vehicles. It is estimated that that installation will be complete on all 166 local fixed-route buses by the end of October.

"It is important for us at CATS to be a leader in the transit industry," said Jennifer Fehribach, CATS General Manager of Bus Operations. "We're prioritizing the health and safety of our riders and staff by exploring new and emerging health-safety measures."

CATS strongly encourages all riders to continue to follow the recommendations of public health officials. All riders are asked to follow the CDC recommendation of wearing non-surgical cloth face coverings while riding transit.
