Officer-Involved Shooting in the Freedom Division

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) is conducting a CMPD officer-involved shooting investigation near the 5100 block of Tuckaseegee Road in the Freedom Division.

On Sunday, June 26, 2022, shortly before 1 p.m., officers responded to an armed robbery call for service on Tuckaseegee Road. Based on the description of the suspect and items noted on the call, officers encountered the suspect at a location nearby.  The suspect discharged a firearm multiple times at officers, striking at least one patrol vehicle. At that point, officers returned fire and struck the suspect. A firearm was recovered on scene. A photo of that firearm is included with this release.

No officers were injured. The suspect was transported by Medic with life threatening injuries. 

Representatives from CMPD's Operations Command, Victim Services, Peer Support and CMPD's Behavioral Psychologist also assisted. The SBI is leading the investigation. CMPD Internal Affairs will conduct a simultaneous, parallel investigation.
