North Tryon Division - Major Crash Detectives investigating a pedestrian fatality


Saturday, April 21, 2018,

​On Friday, April 20, 2018, at 5:00 p.m., North Tryon Division Officers responded to a crash involving a pedestrian in the 5900 block of North Tryon Street at Orr Road.  Upon arrival, officers located the female pedestrian in the roadway.  The vehicle that struck the pedestrian, a 2000 Honda Civic driven by Rudis Hernandez, stopped at the scene immediately after the crash.  MEDIC transported the pedestrian to Carolinas Medical Center-Main with life threatening injuries. 

The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit and DWI Task Force responded to the scene.  The driver and witnesses were interviewed.  The preliminary investigation shows the pedestrian was standing in the median crosswalk when she stepped off the curb into the northbound lanes.  The vehicle had a green light at the time of the crash.  Speed and alcohol use were not a factor in the crash. 

This morning at 8:44 a.m., the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at CMC-Main from the injuries she sustained.  The crash remains under investigation.  Anyone with information about his crash is asked to contact Detective Crum at 704-432-2169.
