Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit are requesting the public's assistance in locating the suspect vehicle involved in a fatal hit and run crash.

On August 26, 2018 at 9:17 p.m., North Tryon Division Officers responded to a hit and run crash in the 3600 block of N. Graham Street just north of Toal Street.  Upon arrival, officers located a pedestrian in the roadway.  MEDIC responded and pronounced the pedestrian, Matthew Alan Midkniff, deceased.  The vehicle that struck the pedestrian failed to stop at the scene and fled south on N. Graham Street.  The CMPD's Major Crash Investigation Unit and the DWI Task Force responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.

The preliminary investigation shows the pedestrian was standing in the right lane when struck.  The roadway does have overhead street lights and the pedestrian was not wearing any clothing that was reflective.  This section of the roadway has no crosswalks or pedestrians signals.

Detectives are searching for a 90s model green Ford Ranger with an extended cab with front damage.  It is unknown the extent of damage.  Speed is a factor in the crash.  Detectives are working to determine if alcohol played a role.

This crash is being investigated by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Departments Major Crash Investigation Unit. The crash remains under investigation. Anyone who witnessed this crash or has information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or Detective Reibold at 704-432-2169.
