***UPDATE*** North Tryon Division - Homicide in the 7200 block of Barrington Drive

Case Update: Friday, September 27, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Malik Benson, DOB: 05/16/1996, Trevonte Jamarcus House, DOB: 09/06/1992, and Keniya Guyton, DOB: 09/30/2001, as additional suspects in the murder of Derrick Lamar Chambers.

As a result of continued investigation, Benson, House and Guyton were identified as additional suspects in this case.  On September 25, 2019, Detectives with CMPD's Targeted Response and Apprehension (TRAP) Unit located and arrested Benson for unrelated charges.  Benson was interviewed by Homicide Unit detectives and subsequently transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office (MCSO).  On September 27, 2019, House, was located and arrested by detectives with VCAT, was interviewed by Homicide Unit detectives, and has since been transferred to the custody of the MSCO.  Guyton was also identified as a suspect through the course of the investigation, and warrants were issued for her arrest.  Guyton, who was already in custody for an unrelated homicide on July 25, 2019, has since been served these warrants.  Both Benson and Guyton have been charged with murder, attempted murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon, and possession of firearm by felon.

Case Update: Friday, May 10, 2019,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Diyondre Wilson, DOB: 8/21/01, with the murder of Derrick Lamar Chambers. 

During the course of their investigation, detectives developed Probable Cause on Wilson and obtained a warrant for his arrest.  Early this morning, Wilson turned himself in at the Mecklenburg County Jail.

Case Update: Sunday, April 7, 2019,

The victim in this case has been identified as Derrick Lamar Chambers, DOB: 09/28/1987His family has been notified of his death.

Saturday, April 6, 2019,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 7200 block of Barrington Drive in the North Tryon Division.  The call for service came in at 9:39 p.m. on Saturday, April 6, 2019.  

North Tryon Division patrol officers responded to an assist medic call for service on Barrington Drive.  Upon arrival, they located a male victim with a gunshot wound inside of an apartment.  He was pronounced deceased on scene.  His name will be released once his family has been notified.  A second male was transported to Atrium Health with non-life threatening injuries sustained in the incident.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, CDCP, Aviation Unit, RTCC and Operations Command responded to the scene.
