***UPDATE*** North Tryon Division - Homicide in the 7100 block of Barrington Drive

Case Update: Thursday, August 1, 2019

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Keniya Guyton, DOB: 09/30/2001, and Tionte Morrison, DOB: 12/15/2000, with their involvement in the murder of Octavion McClellan.

As a result of continued investigation into this case, Guyton and Morrison were identified as suspects and warrants for their arrest were issued.  On August 1, 2019, detectives with CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested Guyton and Morrison without incident.  Both were transported to police headquarters where they were individually interviewed by detectives.  At the conclusion of the interviews, Guyton and Morrison were transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with murder and three counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.  As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.

Case Update: Thursday, August 1, 2019

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department has charged Cortez Quandaz Springs, DOB: 03/25/2000, for his involvement in the murder of Octavion McClellan.

As a result of continued investigation into this case, Springs was identified as a suspect and warrants for his arrest were issued.  On July 31, 2019, detectives with CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team located and arrested Springs without incident.  Springs was transported to police headquarters where he was interviewed by detectives.  At the conclusion of the interview, Springs was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with murder and three counts of attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon.

Case Update: Friday, July 26, 2019

The victim has been identified as Octavion McClellan, DOB 11/22/2001His family has been notified of his death. This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Thursday, July 25, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 7100 block of Barrington Drive in the North Tryon Division.  The call for service came in at 9:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 25, 2019. 

North Tryon Division Officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located a male with a gunshot wound in the parking lot of an apartment complex.   The victim was transported to Atrium Health Carolina's Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased by hospital staff.  An additional male victim later showed up at Atrium Health University City with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.  The deceased victim's identity will be released pending family notification.  At this time, the relationship between the two victims is unknown.

Detectives with the Homicide Unit responded to the scene and are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search has responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services, RTCC, Medic, CFD and Operations Command responded to the scene.
