Case Update: Thursday, September 5, 2019

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have identified the victim in this case as Richard Clements, DOB: 02/20/1982. His family has been notified of his death.

This is an active and ongoing investigation.  As further information develops, it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation W. Sugar Creek Road and North Tryon Street in the North Tryon Division.  The call for service came in at 8:45 p.m. on September 4, 2019.

North Tryon Division officers responded to a motor vehicle crash call for service involving two vehicles.  Upon their arrival, officers located two vehicles in a parking lot and a male with a gunshot wound.  The victim was pronounced deceased on scene.  The deceased victim's identity will be released pending family notification. 

Preliminary information indicates that the victim and suspect were involved in an accident and a verbal altercation occurred.  The victim got out of the vehicle and was shot by the suspect.  The suspect remained on scene and rendered aid to the victim.

Homicide Detectives are currently interviewing witnesses to this incident and are not currently looking for any additional suspects.

Crime Scene Search has responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Medic, CFD, Real Time Crime Center, Victim Services,  and Operations Command responded to the scene.
