Case Update: Saturday, February 23, 2019,

The victim in this case has been identified as Tyshawn Izayiah Rodney Levar Boyd, DOB: 02/06/1998His family has been notified of his death.

This is an ongoing, active investigation.  As further information develops it will be released by CMPD Public Affairs.

Saturday, February 23, 2019,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 1200 block of West Sugar Creek Road in the North Tryon Division.  The call for service came in at 3:53 p.m. on Saturday, February 23, 2019. 

North Tryon Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  A MEDIC unit was in the area and located a male with an apparent gunshot wound on the side of the road.  The victim was transported to Atrium Main where he was pronounced deceased.  His name will be released once his family has been notified.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Victim Services and Operations Command responded to the scene.
