***UPDATE*** North Division - Homicide in the 4500 block of Wynbrook Way

Case Update:  Wednesday, January 30, 2019,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Omontie Oliver Rowe, DOB: 05/24/1997, for his involvement in this case.

As a result of continued investigation into this case, Homicide Detectives identified Rowe as an additional suspect in the murder of Harriet Witherspoon Cromartie and obtained warrants for his arrest.  On Tuesday, January 29, 2019, Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT) worked alongside members of the FBI and United States Secret Service to locate and arrest Mr. Rowe in York County, Pennsylvania.

Mr. Rowe has been charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, and Discharging a Firearm into Occupied Property.  Upon extradition, he will be transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sherriff's Office.

Case Update:  Saturday, January 26, 2019,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit have charged Nazah Raine James, DOB: 01/04/1999, with the murder of Harriet Witherspoon Cromartie.

As a result of information and evidence gathered during the investigation, detectives identified James as a suspect in this case and obtained warrants for her arrest. Earlier this evening, James was located and arrested by detectives with the Violent Criminal Apprehension Team without incident. James was subsequently transported to police headquarters where she was interviewed by detectives. 

At the conclusion of the interview, James was transferred to the custody of the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office and charged with Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, and Discharging Firearm into Occupied Property.

The victim in this case has been identified as Harriet Witherspoon Cromartie, DOB: 11/19/1955Her family has been notified of her death.

Friday, January 25, 2019,

Detectives with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Homicide Unit are conducting a homicide investigation in the 4500 block of Wynbrook Way in the North Division.  The call for service came in at 7:58 p.m. on Friday, January 25, 2019. 

North Division patrol officers responded to an assault with a deadly weapon call for service.  Upon arrival, officers located two females inside of a vehicle with apparent gunshot wounds.  Medic transported one of the victims to the hospital and pronounced the other victim deceased on scene.  Her name will be released once her family has been notified.

Homicide Detectives are currently canvassing the area to determine whether there are any additional witnesses to this incident. 

Crime Scene Search responded to the call for service to process the scene and collect physical evidence.  Representatives of the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Homicide Prosecution Team, Mobile Crisis, Victim Services and Operations Command responded to the scene.
