Charlotte, N.C. – (Saturday, February 29, 2020) -- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal motor vehicle collision involving a four wheeler.
On February 15, 2020, at around 5:50 p.m., officers responded to reports of a single-vehicle collision near the 5600 block of Stardust Drive, which is in the North Division. When they arrived, they located a 14-year-old juvenile who was involved in the single-vehicle collision. Medic transported the juvenile to the hospital where he was treated for life-threatening injuries. CMPD's Major Crash Unit, DWI Task Force and Crime Scene Search responded to the scene to conduct an investigation.
Their preliminary investigation revealed the juvenile was operating a four wheeler on private property while under the supervision of adults. The juvenile drove onto a nearby property where the four wheeler rolled over and caused him to be ejected from the vehicle. The juvenile was not wearing a helmet and sustained life-threatening injuries as a result of the collision.
On February 29, 2020, the victim succumbed to the injuries he sustained as a result of the collision. The victim has been identified as Amari Ford, DOB: 01/04/2005. His family has been notified of his death. The investigation into this collision is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD's Public Affairs Office.
