Charlotte, N.C. – (Monday, January 27, 2020) -- The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department's Major Crash Unit is conducting a fatal crash investigation in the North Division. On Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at 08:06 p.m., North Division officers were dispatched to a crash in the 4500 block of Sunset Road. When officers arrived, they located a 2014 Hyundai Sonata, driven by Joseph E. Suber II, sitting in the roadway with front end damage. The pedestrian, Stover Chambers, DOB: 12/30/1992, was also laying in the roadway and sustained serious injuries. The pedestrian was transported to Atrium Health Main with serious injuries, but was responsive. On Saturday, January 25, 2020, the pedestrian succumbed to the injuries he sustained in this crash.
The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit was tasked with conducting this crash investigation. The preliminary investigation shows that the Hyundai Sonata was traveling west in the 4500 block of Sunset Road. The pedestrian was attempting to cross the street from south to north while not in a crosswalk. The pedestrian was not wearing reflective gear and was also wearing dark clothing. Once the pedestrian entered the west-bound lanes, he was struck by the front of the Hyundai Sonata.
